The Most Hated Family in America (1 of 8) Keith Allen Vs Westboro Baptist Church(part 1of 5)
Feb 062010

My fiancee’s grandparents are very very catholic and I signed our daughter up for a weekly class at a Baptist church…her friend from next door goes there and will be in the same class.

What are the main differances between the 2 religons?

  1. CJ says:

Catholicism is not Christian. Here’s why:

The first Christians in ACTS in the Bible were NOT CATHOLIC. They were fundamentalist in doctrine. Read Acts for yourself and see.

Catholicism didn’t exist for over 300 years later.

Catholicism teaches a false gospel of works (”sacraments”) that leads to eternal hell (Galatians 1:6-9). Catholicism is not Christian

Jesus wants to have a personal relationship with you. Catholicism cannot give you this.

Catholicism = faith + works = no salvation and eternal torment in hell

Christian = faith alone in Jesus for salvation, without our own works added = salvation and eternity in heaven with Jesus! :)

Only faith alone in Jesus saves! Salvation is a FREE GIFT that happens in a split second when you believe in Jesus! It is impossible to lose or “leave” salvation.

The truth about Jesus is that the only way to be saved and to get into heaven and avoid being sent to eternal hell, is by believing in faith alone that Jesus, who is God, died for our sins on the cross and rose from the dead (1 Corinthians 15:1-4). Believe this and you will be in heaven, no matter what!

Please pray now: “Jesus, please forgive me of my sins. I believe that You died on the cross for my sins and You rose from the dead. Thank You for eternal life!” You will be in heaven with Him forever when you die. :)

  2. Cross Martyr says:

Catholics can drink and dance. Well, they can’t dance, but they are allowed to.

  3. Chris says:

For one, both are different denominations of Christianity, not different religions. Also, there are several kinds of Baptists.

As for the differences, there are many. Most notably Baptists don’t believe in infant baptism, special sainthood, that the Pope is the leader of the whole church, and many more.

Baptists tend to be less structured in doctrine and authority than Catholics.

  4. asylum31 says:

CJ is not Christian. Here’s why:

The first Christians in ACTS were NOT CJ’s. They were kind to all and they forgave others, and did not cast stones.

CJ didn’t exist for over 2000 years later.

CJ teaches falsely that Catholicism teaches a gospel of works when the Catechism says that salvation is by God’s grace. CJ is not Christian.

Jesus wants to have a personal relationship with you. CJ cannot give you this.

    Christianity = God’s grace.

CJism = faith alone, just like Satan. Jesus said “not all who say ‘Lord Lord’ will be with me in the kingdom”

Only the grace of God saves! Salvation is a free gift, but one must accept and keep that gift. Revelations shows that God can and does remove names from the book of life.

The truth about CJ is that he is a bigot who has no idea what Catholics really believe. When he is corrected on Catholic teachings, he calls people liars and continues on in his willful ignorance. If you want to understand Catholicism, even in disagreement, never listen to CJ.

Please pray now: “Jesus, please forgive CJ of his sins. I believe that you taught compassion and love and told us not to bear false witness, but CJ openly does this. Guide him to your truth.”

  5. saved by grace says:

Baptists depend totaly on what Jesus did on the cross to get us to heaven not by good works.Ephesians 2:5 Even when we were dead in sins, hath quickened us together with Christ, (by grace ye are saved;) Ephesians 2:8 For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: We talk directly to Jesus and not to mary

  6. Ms Stevie says:

Baptists are comprised of some hostile intolerant nutballs like the first responder.

    Not so much the Catholics.

  7. PaulCyp says:

Catholicism: original and complete Christianity, founded by Jesus Christ. Has taught the fullness of truth in unity for 2,000 years.

Baptist and all other Protestants: Semi-Christianity, having rejected many of the beliefs and practices of original Christianity. Manmade traditions a few hundred years old that exist in open defiance of the stated will of Christ, “that they all may be ONE”.

  8. Ricky H says:

I think the main difference is Baptist pray directly to Jesus and Catholics pray to the Virgin Mother.

  9. Iv3Rson says:

The difference is they’re divided. Based on different teachings and so on.

  10. Me says:

There are many misconceptions about the catholic faith. To the person that said Catholics pray to Mary, WE DO NOT. We do not worship the Virgin Mary, we ask for her prayers. Not all catholics even pray to saints. This is just like asking a friend to pray for you when you go through a tough time. I encourage you to read Amy Welborn’s Prove It! Church book. It goes through all of the things that the people who wrote long and hate filled answers discussed. It shows why we do these things and how they are related in scripture. It also will demonstrate the differences between the churches.
Catholicism is the faith Jesus Christ started 2000 years ago. I encourage you to look into it.
    Your Friend in Christ,
    Lily

Oh, and for the one that says I am soooo wrong, the book is just a way to navigate the verses.

  11. starfish50 says:

The main differances are 2/3 things. Baptist do not ask a HUMAN priest for forgivness, they pray directly to God for forgivness.
Baptist DO NOT pray to Mary the mother of Jesus.
Baptist DO NOT call am man as being the person of God,only Jesus was God. Catholics say the Pope is God among us.

  12. jesus.sparks says:

Well I am a Baptist, but you should beasking what is the difference between the Catholic Church and the Protestant Church (Baptist, Methodist, Lutheran).

Well first I want to star by saying that what I am writting might no be believed by evry single Catholic, but this is what the Catholic Church, Pope and what the priests are taught.

First: The Catholic Church has a false belief of what the gospel is. The Catholic Church believes that you must do good works in order to be saved. This is like slapping God in the face and saying that Jesus sacrifice was not good enough. This is a false doctrine because the Bible is very, very clear in saying that we are saved through faith and only through faith (Titus 3:5; Ephesians 2:8-9). There is no wigle room for the Catholic Church to add their false gospel. Plus in Galatians Ch. 1 Paul says that if anyone comes to us and preaches another Jesus than what he had told them then they should be anathemam (basically damed). There is no worser ofense you can do than to change the gospel.

So you will have your consience ceared that you placed your daughter in a church that believes the true gosspel and believes 100% in the bible

Second: The Catholic Church relise mostly on Church traditions than the Bible itself. They lace mans word far above Gods Word. All you have to do is look up all the traditions of the Catholic Church and they wont be found in the Bible or they will be clearly condemed by the Bible (priests, nuns, popes, saints (refering to the holy beings they pray to), the adoration and position they give to mary, baptism of infants, conformation, their view on the last supper and their practice of it now, confesion-and to a priest…. Tell me, other than a few Catholics on here, how many actually read the Bible. My own pastor tells me, not just to take what he says to be true about the Bible, but to actually look it up myself.

As you can see there are big differences in the two religions. One leads your daughter in the narrow road and the other into the road to destruction. I am not going to sit here and lie to you and tell you that both ways get you to heave.

I know that i am going to get soooo many thumbs down. but I don’t care, the truth hurts. And all the Catholic followers have to do is open their Bibles.

Just know that you have done a great thing for your daughter. Hoopefully you can start attending to. Feel free to email me about any question you have to what I said.

    God Bless you.

“CJ” is right. As you can see we told you the same thing and like I said, look how many thumbs down he got.

“Me” is sooo wrong. The first followers of Christ were not Catholics. The first believers believed exactly what the Protestant Church believes, not what the Catholic Church believes. Second look where she is telling you to look, a book written by man, not the Bible, always go to the Bible.

  13. noah says:

Just to keep it simple, either is a good, Christian religion. They’re just different preferences. The Catholics believe in a few more things than Baptists. Some people have meshed the two branches together. There isn’t a huge difference.

  14. imacatholic2 says:

“What separates us as believers in Christ is much less than what unites us.” (Pope John XXIII)

Almost all important doctrine is completely agreed upon between Catholic Christians and other Christians.

Here is the joint declaration of justification by Catholics (1999), Lutherans (1999), and Methodists (2006):

By grace alone, in faith in Christ’s saving work and not because of any merit on our part, we are accepted by God and receive the Holy Spirit, who renews our hearts while equipping us and calling us to good works.

    http://www.vatican.va/roman_curia/pontifical_councils/chrstuni/documents/rc_pc_chrstuni_doc_31101999_cath-luth-joint-declaration_en.html

There are many minor doctrine issues and some major cultural traditional differences which, I believe, do not matter that much.

A Catholic worships and follows Christ in the tradition of Catholicism which, among other things, recognizes that Christ made Peter the leader of His new Church and Pope Benedict XVI is Peter’s direct successor.

For more information, see the Catechism of the Catholic Church: http://www.usccb.org/catechism/text/index.shtml

    With love in Christ.

  15. SigGirl says:

Part of the difficulty in replying to this question is that there are many beliefs among the various denominations of baptists.

Catholics do not believe in Once Saved, Always Saved.

    We (Catholics) have more sacraments.

We have more books in the Bible.

We believe in the Real Presence.

Our mass is a prayer, not a praise and worship session.

We believe that the Bible is not the only important thing, but that Sacred Tradition is the other leg of faith.

We both believe that the Communion of Saints is real, and that the Saints can and do pray for us.

    There are MANY more differences.

Somethings are similar: we want all Christians to get to Heaven. We believe in the saving love of Jesus Christ. Salvation comes from faith, not just works.

Oh yes, and we Catholics drink, too.

  16. Baybreeze O says:

I grew up Catholic then began attending a Baptist Church when I moved to the south.

In Christianity there are two groups,

1.Protestant They protested in the past and still do protest the agency of the Catholic church in its dogma, and teachings on salvation only through the pale of the Church. Your faith alone brings you salvation here with a Protestant church.
This includes the Baptist Church and any other Christian Church other than Catholic

2.Catholocism The Churches thoughts and doctrines guide you to salvation and it can not be done without them and their rules. You are not saved by faith alone in the Catholic Church You have to follow Sacriments and rules and guidelines of the Church to go to be saved.

There are groups of Catholic Churches now that aren’t Roman Catholic that don’t conform to the view above to be fair nowadays.

Leaves for you to study to determine if you think you need mandated Guidelines or just Faith In God to be saved.

Protestants still Love Catholics and most Catholics still Love Protestants so feel free to visit any time also children are too young to put them in bad situations by arguing about religion, GOD will let them make their own decisions one day!

  17. http://www.bible-reviews.com says:

So far, Chris gave the best answer. It’s actually not very easy to answer this: the reason is that “Catholic” normally refers to a single Christian sect, the Roman Catholic Church, but “Baptist” refers to an entire *category* of Christian sects, each with different beliefs (sometimes very *widely* differing beliefs). It’s sort of like asking, “what’s the difference between a corvette and all Fords”….

Nevertheless, there *are* a few core “Baptist” beliefs that most Baptist sects hold in common. Note, though, how personal interpretation is one of those core beliefs! As a result, Baptist congregations frequently differ from each other more widely than any of them differ from the Roman Catholic Church!!

    OK, here we go
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Baptist#Baptist_beliefs_and_principles

I’ll run down the “common” beliefs (”BAPTISTS”) listed at the link above, and respond with how the Roman Catholic Church differs

    1) Biblical Authority – unlike Baptists, the Roman Catholic Church (RCC) teaches that the church has top authority in matters of Christian doctrine. However, they also teach that the bible is inerrant in all doctrinal matters (that is, in everything a Christian *must* believe). More simply: the RCC uses the bible as an authoritative reference for the formation of doctrine, but not ONLY the bible.

    2) Autonomy of the local church – quite the opposite, the RCC has a fairly rigid and bureaucratic hierarchy. Each Baptist church is answerable to no one but themselves, but every RCC official is answerable to a superior in the church hierarchy. The pope is answerable to Jesus.

    3) Priesthood of all believers – again, very different. Although the RCC *does* have similar language (it’s Scriptural, after all), the RCC *also* has church officers designated as “priests”. These priests, like the Jewish priests, officiate at religious ceremonies, including most importantly for the RCC the ceremony of the “eucharist” or “the Lord’s supper”

    4) Two ordinances (believer’s baptism; Lord’s Supper) – the RCC has *7* such ordinances which they term “sacraments” (”holy acts”). RCC baptism does not require that the baptized be a believer (i.e. they permit infant baptism), nor do they require, as do Baptist sects, full body immersion. The RCC “Lords Supper” is based on the doctrine of “transubstantiation”, which means that they believe the bread and wine are literally, physically and spiritually, though not biologically, the body and blood of Jesus. I do not believe that any Baptist sects follow this doctrine.

    5) Individual soul liberty – the idea that what is proper for a Christian (i.e. what is a valid interpretation of Scripture) is up to the individual to decide. The RCC teaches that only its interpretation of Scripture is valid, and all members are required to believe a core group of doctrines known as “canon law”. Thus, for example, in theory at least, a Baptist could determine for him/herself that abortion was permissible to Christians. The RCC, on the other hand, automatically excommunicates (”kicks out”) anyone obtaining an abortion or anyone enabling another to do so (a “co-conspirator”).

    6) Separation of Church and State – RCC is essentially identical, and does not allow any of its officials to run for political office.

    7) Two offices of the church (pastor; deacon) – this is different in the RCC primarily because Baptist congregations, as mentioned previously, are independent even from other congregations in the same Baptist sect. The RCC, as previously mentioned, has a hierarchy and therefore a number of offices representative of the officials’ authority. However, most RCC officials are considered one of deacon, priest or bishop. Even the pope is considered to be “the bishop of Rome”.

    8) Saved church membership – as this concept is not explained in the Wikipedia article, I am uncertain how to address it.

The most divisive difference between Baptists and Roman Catholics is one mentioned by Chris: the pope is the top earthly official of the RCC and must be recognized as such by all Roman Catholics.

  18. Uncle Joe says:

    I am Roman Catholic.

One of the biggest mistakes protestants make about Christianity is denying that good works matter.
Read The Gospel of saint Matthew Chapter 7 verses 21-23.
Jesus Christ Himself said that we must do The Will of His Father in heaven in order to be saved.

Another big mistake is teaching “sola scriptura”. That is Latin for “scripture alone”. This is the false teaching of many protestants that The Bible is the ultimate authority of revelation.

The Church is the ultimate authority to interpret scripture. It is historical fact that the Church assembled The Bible. The Church existed before The Bible. One must admit that The Church is the ultimate authority to teach and interpret divine revelation, or one must say that The Bible was assembled by a group that had inferior authority to The Bible that it assembled. That would mean that The Church somehow endowed The Bible with authority that The Church itself did not have. That would be absurd. It is false.

The Church can not, and does not act in opposition to The Bible. But The Bible is not the ultimate authority. The Church is not limited to only the Bible. The Bible should be read in consultation with the 2000 year old Catholic Church.

About 500 years ago, protestants threw out several books of the Old Testament. They tried to throw out some New Testament books too, but they were not able to succeed in that attempt to abridge The Bible that they claim is the sole source of divine revelation. I think it is noteworthy that The Bible itself tells that there was a great deal more that Jesus did than what is written in the Bible. You can read this near the end of the Gospel of Saint John, Chapter 21, verses 24-25.

In actual practice, many protestants consider themselves to be the final authority in teaching what The Bible means. That is why they don’t want to submit to the authority of The Church. I don’t think that all protestants purposely lie about the contents of the Bible and the meaning of scripture. Many are merely mistaken about many Biblical matters.

I believe that many protestants are sincere in their love of Jesus Christ. I also believe that most protestants intend to be faithful to the teachings of Christianity. Unfortunately, when you leave the community of the One Holy Catholic and Apostolic Church, you leave the 2000 year history of Christian scholarship and theology behind.

Even though the main doctrine about Jesus Christ as our savior is the same among most Christians, we still have some very significant disagreements about some very important teachings. You can find a great deal of important information on the website of the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops (usccb.org) and on the website “catholic.com”.

I hope, pray and trust that all of God’s Creation will be reconciled to Him in eternity.

    Peace be with you.
